I’ve got a new book coming out at the end of this month so I’m going to do something I’ve done very (read “too”) rarely.

I am marketing my book.

Yes! I actually sat down and made a plan and am now carrying it out.

This is almost unheard of for me.

My marketing plan is four-fold.

  1. I made the first book in the series free and advertised it on Freebooksy, in newsletter swaps, and on Facebook and Reddit. About a thousand copies have been downloaded in the past three months.
  2. I signed up with a blog tour company to have the book featured and reviewed. It wasn’t too-too expensive—about $400 for a four week tour.
  3. I have a newsletter campaign in progress. Normally, I send out my newsletter once a month on the 15ᵗʰ I am now sending it out every other week (not a huge bump up and many marketing people would say that I need to send it weekly but I don’t know how my readership would respond so I’m playing it safe).
  4. I have begun a social media blitz—I’m posting every day on Facebook, Instagram and every few days on Pinterest.

I am not the best marketer, I am entirely too timid. I don’t want to bother people, which is absolutely the wrong attitude to have for someone trying to market their work. I know I shouldn’t think of my emails and posts as bothering, but as giving potential readers a chance to learn more about me and my books.

I am trying to change my mindset. I am working at it. This marketing campaign, this book launch is my attempt to do just that. And if I sell a few books in the meantime, all the better!
