It is that time of year again! Yup, it’s the end.
… of the year.
… when I create my Goals, Hopes & Dreams list.
I do this every year, sharing how I did with last year’s list and what I’m planning for the future. I also choose a word for the coming year.
So, if you’ve been reading my blog for some time, you’ll know that every year I write out three goals, three hopes, and three dreams for the coming year. A goal is something achievable, a hope is something that will take more work and effort to attain, and a dream is a pie-in-the-sky sort of thing.
At this moment, I can’t access my G,H & D list from last year because I wrote it in my Kindle Scribe, which is currently packed for a trip. However, no matter what it says, I’m certain I didn’t accomplish everything on my goals list because this has been a year of slowing down for me.
So, for next year, my list will include writing fewer books (usually, I’ve planned on writing 3 novels and a novella.) This past year I wrote only two novels and so that is what I’m going to plan on for this coming year. For my hopes, I’ll put down a third novel, but I don’t know that I’ll get there.
Retirement for a workaholic, like me, is not easy! I’ve stopped taking new formatting clients, but have yet to deny any of my old clients. I reduced the amount of editing and coaching I’m doing by, again, not accepting new clients. But then I worry and am anxious when I don’t have any work to do for anyone but myself. I have to keep reminding myself that this is what I wanted.
My husband is having the same problem. He just can’t let go. He’s planning on retiring this coming summer, or perhaps at the end of next year, or maybe the summer after that. It’s great that he’s so definitive about this. I say that knowing full well how hard this is.
So, my word for this coming year is going to be Relax.
I’ve got to relax about work. I’ve got to take it easy on myself when I don’t get a lot done in a day. It’s perfectly all right.
So, what are your goals, hopes, and dreams for 2026? Have you/Do you choose a word?
